For dessert lovers, there are few better places to find tasty treats than in Northern Utah, where sugary shops have access to the region’s beloved local creameries and use high-quality ingredients to create new confections and perfect the old. Whatever it is you’re craving to satisfy your sweet tooth, you’ll probably be able to find it at one of these shops in Brigham City, UT.

1. Idle Isle Fine Candies

Idle Isle is a small-town candy maker with a claim to confectionary fame: This hometown candy brand is a favorite gift choice of elected officials who want to give a taste of Utah’s best to foreign dignitaries including the Queen. Idle Isle has been open for more than a century, and candy makers still use the same old-fashioned methods that were passed down from the shop’s original owners.

You won’t be able to get enough of the company’s Almond Creme Toffee, which is a milk-chocolate dipped toffee rolled in roasted, sliced almonds. This signature candy started out as the “Melba,” which had a vanilla-flavored center and was rolled in peanuts instead of almonds. Some of the other old-fashioned offerings include hand-dipped chocolates, boden candy (hard candy sticks), and a rotating selection of fresh fudge.

2. Peach City

If you scream for ice cream, there’s no better place to find it than at Peach City, a Brigham City institution. Peach City opened back in 1937 as an upscale malt shop, catering to locals before becoming a favorite among soldiers from the local military hospital during World War II.

In 1957, the shop transformed into the drive-in restaurant you’ll find today, and has largely stayed the same as it’s always been, down to the ice cream that the Peach City team makes fresh daily on location. You can get traditional flavors like chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla, or less common finds like bubblegum, maple nut, green pineapple, and banana nut.

3. Jakimelis Mexican Bakery

Jakimeliis offers a rotating menu of Mexican street food that visitors love, like tacos al pastor and carne asada. What really puts this family-owned local gem on the map, though, is its bakery selection, which includes authentic Mexican sweets as good as any that you’ll find.

Sure to please a crowd looking for a post-meal sweet are the ojos de pancha (vanilla rolls with cinnamon and sugar), but you really can’t go wrong no matter what you choose. Each option here is as full of traditional flavor as the last, including the sweet pumpkin empanadas and traditional Mexican cake slices. Make sure to leave room for the conchitas, which are shell-shaped sweet breads with chocolate, strawberry, or vanilla candy coatings.

When you’re in the mood for something sweet, one of the local shops on this list is sure to hit the spot.
